ITINERARY

Turn around Naples in a week

Good morning,

Naples is a city rich in beauty, history, landscapes, attractions, wonders and contradictions and the time to visit it and fully understand it is never enough. You may be able to visit it for a whole week and in that case you will ask yourself: where to go? what to do? what see? From which part of Naples do I start my tour? Where do I end it?

To answer all these questions we propose this itinerary that will help you visit Naples in a week.

Monday: from the historic center to the San Severo Chapel

The perfect starting point for taking this route is Piazza Dante. It is possible to reach this square thanks to the Line 1 of the underground, which can be taken in Piazza Garibaldi (central station) or in the various stations scattered around the city.

Expenses necessary

Tickets for the metro: € 2 (2 tickets for € 1) - Entrance to the Monastery of Santa Chiara: € 6 (reduced € 4.50) - Entrance to the San Severo Chapel and visit to the Veiled Christ: € 7 (reduced € 5) - Entrance to Underground Naples: € 10 (reduced € 8) - Total: € 25

Starting from Piazza Dante you will have to go down via Toledo until you reach via Maddaloni, the first part of the lower decuman most known as Spaccanapoli. Spaccanapoli is a road that crosses the entire historic center and therefore passes through many places of interest in the city. One of these is the Monastery of Santa Chiara, which is one of the stops on our itinerary. Going on to Spaccanapoli you will arrive in front of the entrance of Napoli Sotterranea : here you can take a guided tour of the "bowels" of Naples. Going further you will find the famous Via San Gregorio Armeno, the historic street of the cribs, which we recommend you to cover it all. From via San Gregorio Armeno you can take via Dei Tribunali, the decumanus major of Naples. Along this road in the direction of Piazza Dante you can reach the museum of Cappella San Severo, home of the extraordinary Veiled Christ by Giuseppe Sammartino, which is the last stop on our first day of visit to Naples. At the end of the visit to Cappella San Severo you can easily reach Piazza Dante again via Via Portalba.

Tuesday: Naples seen from above (from the hilly area)

The Certosa di San Martino can be reached in various ways: arriving at the Piazza Vanvitelli station via the Metro Line 1, which can also be taken from the central station in Piazza Garibaldi. If instead we start from the city center we can use the funicular line:

-The Montesanto Funicular, is taken from the "Pignasecca" area, near Piazza Dante. This line has as its terminus Via Morghen.

If, on the other hand, the departure is from the Vomero district, the V1 bus line terminates in San Martino and therefore stops right in front of the museum.

Expenses necessary

Tickets for the metro: € 2 (2 tickets for € 1) - Entrance of the Certosa di San Martino: € 6 (reduced € 3) - Total day: € 8

To reach the Funicolare di Montesanto, take the Metro Line 1 and get off at the Toledo station, proceed along Via Toledo and then turn left immediately after Piazza della Carità. Continue straight ahead until you reach the station. Take the Funicular and get off at the terminus, Via Morghen. From here you can simply climb the road on your right and in 10 minutes you will arrive in front of the Certosa. Once you have visited this splendid structure, from which you can admire the entire Gulf of Naples, you can choose to take a tour of the most famous streets of the Vomero. Going down the road from the Certosa you will find: Via Scarlatti, Piazza Vanvitelli, Via Luca Giordano, all roads that follow one after the other, characterized by many trees on the sides and many shops where you can shop. To return to the center, you can take the funicular in Via Morghen again and return to the opposite route or simply take Line 1 of the Metro in Piazza Vanvitelli which will take you directly to Piazza Garibaldi (central station).

In this area if you had the opportunity to reach it: another thing to recommend is definitely the Eremo dei camaldolesi.

Wednesday: Maschio Angioino, shopping streets and the Lungomare

To reach the Maschio Angioino you need to take the Metro Line 1 and get off at the Municipio stop. The most convenient way to get to Piazza Plebiscito, on the other hand, is to get off at the Toledo stop of Line 1 of the Metro, from the square then the Riviera di Chiaia is only a few meters walk away.

Expenses necessary

Tickets for the metro: € 2 (2 tickets for € 1) -  Input Maschio Angioino: € 6 (reduced € 3) - Total day: € 8

Starting from Piazza Garibaldi , take Metro Line 1 and get off at the Municipio stop. Once out of the Municipio station you can admire the Maschio Angioino in front of you. After having visited it, once you have left, proceed ahead on your left and after a few meters you will pass in front of the most famous theater in Naples, the San Carlo. The theater precedes Piazza Trieste e Trento which is almost a forerunner to the most important square in Naples, Piazza Plebiscito. Going back, towards Piazza Trieste e Trento , you can go straight and continue on Via Roma, a road that will take you to Via Toledo and then to Piazza Dante, where you will find the stations of Line 1 of the Metro, or you can turn left and take Via Chiaia. This is another of the most representative streets of Naples, full of clothing stores, bars and stalls. If you cover it all you will find yourself in Piazza dei Martiri . Going a step further you will pass through Via Filangeri, a street full of luxury clothing stores. At the end of this road you will finally arrive at the Riviera di Chiaia. Here you will be welcomed by many restaurants and above all by the Villa Comunale. Going all along the seafront you will arrive in Mergellina, here you can choose whether to have an aperitif in some chalets or take the subway line 2 which from Mergellina will take you directly to Piazza Garibaldi.
